Day eight of development is all about fish. There are now 14 species, each with its own model, depth range and weight — and not everything takes the hook anymore: every fish has a favourite bait.
New species and models
The old fish are joined by carp, flounder, halibut, swordfish and anglerfish. Before, every fish was the same elongated shape in a different colour. We first tried a ready-made model pack, but our own fish, built in code, turned out better — and match the world's style.
Every fish is built from a handful of numbers: body height, where the hump is, how blunt the head is, what kind of tail. Fins come in five kinds: the perch's spiny one, the tuna's sickle, the swordfish's sail, the fringe around a flounder. Tails come in six shapes, from the herring's deep fork to the tuna's crescent. Colour runs from a dark back to a pale belly, with the species' pattern on top: perch bars, black and red trout spots, pale pike spots, orange flounder spots.
Each species has its own marks: the roach's red eye, whiskers on catfish, carp and cod, the sword, the tuna's yellow finlets, toothy jaws on pike and anglerfish — and the anglerfish's glowing lantern. Flounder and halibut lie on their side with both eyes on top. They all swim with a wave along the body that grows towards the tail; flatfish wave up and down. And a big fish is visibly fatter than a small one of its kind.
Weights and depths are closer to life. Roach run from 50 g to 700 g, carp up to 15 kg, catfish up to 60 kg, hiding in holes 3–9 m deep. At sea, tuna reach 200 kg, swordfish 50–300 kg, and the anglerfish lives deepest of all, at 40–90 m, coming out only at night.
The chart is built straight from the game's species table — the same numbers the bite is rolled from.
Bait
Bait now decides who bites. Every species has a favourite and takes it 2–4 times more eagerly. Other natural baits it takes three times more reluctantly, but it does take them.
- Worms are a new find. They lie on damp banks right by the water, and rain doubles the number of spots. Crucian, roach, perch, trout and flounder all love them.
- Berries are for peaceful fish: carp like them best.
- Meat is for catfish and cod.
- Live bait is for predators: pike, halibut, tuna.
An empty hook still works: small fish take it, but big rare fish hardly ever bite, and you wait half as long again for a bite.
The reference — everything in one place: where each species lives, what it bites on and when.

Fewer fish in deep water
Schools deeper than 9 m are now three times rarer: the sea no longer teems like an aquarium. Rivers and lakes are unaffected — they're shallower, and fishing from the bank is as good as ever.
